Personal Definition of Well-Being: Being satisfied about one’s comprehensive position in life in the present and in the future.
Dimensions:
- Mental and Physical Health: I am a strong believer that the first component to increasing one’s well-being is making sure that you are in a good standing with your own physical and mental state. I believe that the two are interconnected and having them synchronized is critical. I also feel that mental and physical health are the building blocks for other components of well-being.
- Self-Purpose: Having a sense of personal pride and accomplishment is crucial for one’s well-being. In my opinion, having a profession or other outlet that you are passionate about goes a very long way for people. Personal mastery, whether in your job, a hobby, or other activity, keeps people motivated and happy with their day-to-day activities.
- Travel/New Experiences: Being able to have a change of pace on your daily activities cannot be understated. There is so much to see and experience in life and limiting oneself to a specific area or way of life can be detrimental.
- Healthy Relationships: The people that surround you in life dictate your outlook. If those that are close to you are negative and pessimistic, your personal well-being will be adversely impacted. Removing those kind of people is crucial to maintaining one’s well-being in the long-run.
- Work-Life Balance: Life is all about balance. If you are overworking yourself in one area the rest of your life takes a hit. For most people, your job takes a significant portion of your time. Therefore, it is critical to make sure you do not neglect other important facets in your life and to try to stay as well-rounded as possible.
